CARPI Recognises

A continuous recognition platform showcasing outstanding work throughout the year. CARPI celebrates excellence consistently rather than limiting recognition to an annual awards ceremony.

Recognition Beyond Annual Awards

Traditional awards bodies limit recognition to annual ceremonies, leaving outstanding work invisible for most of the year. CARPI Recognises operates continuously, ensuring that excellence receives visibility when it deserves it — not months later at a single event.

Our recognition framework spans four comprehensive categories — from research commercialisation and scholarly excellence to intellectual property and institutional leadership — ensuring every form of applied research impact finds a credible platform for visibility.

Four Categories of Excellence

Select a category to explore the recognition types available under CARPI Recognises.

Research Commercialisation

CARPI recognizes applied research and technologies that demonstrate a clear pathway from academic discovery to industry adoption, licensing, and measurable market or societal impact.

Research with Commercialisation Potential

Honors research that goes beyond theoretical contribution to show validated application pathways, industry relevance, or prototype readiness. Work in this category has identifiable potential for licensing, startup creation, or industry-sponsored development.

Technology Ready for Licensing

Recognizes technologies assessed as mature enough for licensing discussions, with documented intellectual property status, defined use cases, and readiness for engagement with industry partners or technology transfer offices.

Applied Research

Celebrates research designed to address practical problems in industry, agriculture, healthcare, energy, or public policy. Submissions should demonstrate how the work translates knowledge into actionable solutions with real-world relevance.

Startup Spin-off

Acknowledges research-driven ventures that have successfully transitioned into startup companies, demonstrating entrepreneurial application of academic work, investor engagement, and early market traction.

Publications & Research Excellence

CARPI acknowledges scholarly and project-based outputs that represent rigorous research excellence, completed work, and funding success — ensuring publications and funded projects receive visibility beyond institutional archives.

Published Book

Recognizes authored or edited books that contribute meaningfully to applied research, innovation policy, industry practice, or interdisciplinary knowledge with demonstrated academic and professional impact.

Published Research Paper

Highlights peer-reviewed research papers that advance applied knowledge, demonstrate methodological rigor, and show relevance to industry, policy, or community outcomes beyond citation metrics alone.

Completed Research Project

Celebrates successfully completed research projects with documented objectives, deliverables, and outcomes. Recognition focuses on project execution, impact, and the quality of results achieved within defined timelines.

Research Grant Awarded

Acknowledges researchers, faculty, and teams who have secured competitive research grants from government agencies, industry sponsors, foundations, or international funding bodies, reflecting credibility and research leadership.

Intellectual Property & Innovation

CARPI spotlights intellectual property creation and technology development that protect innovation, enable commercialization, and strengthen the bridge between academic R&D and market-ready assets.

Patent Filed

Recognizes inventors and teams who have filed patent applications for novel technologies, processes, or products emerging from academic research, signaling early-stage IP creation with commercialization intent.

Patent Granted

Honors granted patents that have successfully passed examination, validating the novelty and utility of academic innovations with stronger readiness for licensing, investment, or startup formation.

Copyright Registered

Acknowledges registered copyright for original software, publications, creative works, datasets, or educational materials produced through research and innovation activities within academic institutions.

Trademark Registered

Celebrates registered trademarks associated with research-driven products, services, or startup ventures born from academic innovation, reflecting brand development alongside technical creation.

Industrial Design Registered

Recognizes registered industrial designs that protect the aesthetic and functional design elements of products developed through applied research, engineering, or interdisciplinary innovation projects.

Technology Developed

Highlights the development of functional technologies, prototypes, platforms, or tools that demonstrate technical feasibility and practical application, whether or not formal IP registration has yet been completed.

Academic Leadership & Institutional Excellence

CARPI recognizes academic leaders and institutions that champion research culture, innovation ecosystems, student outcomes, and organizational excellence across universities, departments, and research centres.

Vice Chancellor

Honors vice chancellors who provide strategic leadership in research commercialization, industry collaboration, innovation policy, and institutional transformation at the highest academic level.

Chancellor

Recognizes chancellors whose governance, vision, and advocacy strengthen research excellence, institutional reputation, and long-term innovation impact across the academic ecosystem.

Director

Celebrates directors of institutes, centres, or universities who drive research strategy, resource mobilization, and partnerships that elevate applied research and innovation outcomes.

Dean

Acknowledges deans who foster faculty research, interdisciplinary collaboration, industry engagement, and student innovation within their faculties or schools.

Training & Placement Head

Recognizes leaders who connect academic talent with industry opportunities, strengthen employability, and bridge research-trained graduates with innovation-driven careers and placements.

Head of Department

Honors department heads who build research culture, support faculty and student projects, and create environments where applied research and innovation can thrive at the departmental level.

Research Centre Head

Celebrates heads of research centres who lead focused R&D agendas, secure funding, manage collaborative projects, and deliver measurable research and innovation outputs.

University Achievement

Recognizes institutional milestones in research ranking, innovation index performance, accreditation, technology transfer, or ecosystem development at the university level.

Department Achievement

Acknowledges departments that achieve excellence in research output, patent filings, industry projects, student innovation, or sustained recognition in their field of specialization.

Research Centre Achievement

Highlights research centres that deliver outstanding project outcomes, collaborative partnerships, funded research success, or technology development with documented impact.

How Recognition Works

1. Nomination

Institutions, peers, or self-nominations submit outstanding work for consideration across any recognition category or sub-category listed above.

2. Evaluation

Submissions are assessed against CARPI's ten guiding principles: originality, practical application, innovation, industry relevance, social impact, and more.

3. Spotlight Feature

Selected work is featured on the CARPI platform, promoted through partner networks, and archived as part of the recognition record.
